Quick answer: separate the Canada quote from import charges
A useful Canada estimate starts with final packed weight and outside dimensions, then compares only the Hipobuy routes currently offered for the exact postal code and item set. For ordinary mail or courier shipments sent from China, the general CAD 20 threshold remains important: above it, applicable duty and taxes are assessed on the full value. Keep those amounts and any Canada Post handling or courier brokerage fee separate from the international shipping quote. Hipo Sheets cannot read live Hipobuy rates or calculate Canadian import charges.
1. Finish product, QC and legality checks first
Confirm every selected item, colour, size, quantity, visible condition and measurement before international shipping. Resolve a return or exchange before building the parcel. Check whether the actual goods may lawfully enter Canada and whether the selected route accepts them. A seller listing, shopping-platform link or carrier name does not establish that an item is admissible.
2. Use packed weight and outside dimensions
Product-level weights are only early inputs. Use the newest packed physical weight and measure the outside length, width and height after boxes, protection and consolidation are chosen. A route can compare physical and dimensional weight, apply its own divisor or rounding rule and charge the higher result. Use rehearsal packaging when appropriate, then confirm the current route calculation before payment.
3. Compare Canada Post and courier routes separately
Route availability can change with the postal code, parcel size, weight, product attributes and carrier conditions. Compare the current service name, postal or courier entry method, tracking coverage, delivery estimate, chargeable-weight calculation, limits, restrictions, compensation terms, duty handling and final total. Canada Post applies its published mail-handling process; a courier can use a broker and charge different administrative fees.
4. Verify the complete Canadian address and postal code
Canada Post defines a postal code as six alphanumeric characters in A1A 1A1 form. Use the recipient name, unit before the civic number where appropriate, street, municipality, two-letter province or territory abbreviation and uppercase postal code with one space and no hyphen. Rural route, PO Box and General Delivery addresses use their own formats. Match the complete address in a current Canada Post lookup or the live checkout before payment.
5. Decide packaging before trusting the quote
Shoe boxes, structured bags, padded jackets and protective materials can raise parcel volume without a similar increase in scale weight. Compare the protection value of each box with the possible dimensional-weight effect. If items, packaging or compression choices change after rehearsal, obtain or confirm updated packed measurements before comparing the final routes.
6. Apply the CAD 20 threshold to a China-origin shipment correctly
CBSA states that an item mailed to Canada with a value of CAD 20 or less can qualify for duty and tax remission, subject to exclusions. When the value is above CAD 20, applicable duty, GST or HST and any PST are assessed on the full value rather than only the amount above CAD 20. The same general CAD 20 level applies to a courier shipment imported from a country other than the United States or Mexico. Do not split, undervalue or relabel an order to try to fit the threshold.
7. Do not borrow the higher US-Mexico courier thresholds
Canada's CUSMA thresholds distinguish the shipment method and origin. Qualifying courier shipments imported from the United States or Mexico can receive tax relief up to CAD 40 and duty relief up to CAD 150, while mail remains at CAD 20. A parcel sent from China does not gain those higher courier thresholds because a platform uses Canadian dollars, a North American website or an intermediary carrier. Use the actual shipment and origin facts.
8. Separate GST, HST or PST from product-specific customs duty
CBSA says imported mail is generally subject to the 5% GST unless exempt. HST or PST treatment can depend on the recipient's province or territory. Customs duty is a separate calculation based on the type of goods and where they were made or originated. Clothing, footwear, bags and electronics should not share one generic rate. Keep the Canadian-dollar value, shipping and supporting invoice ready for the actual assessment.
9. Add the Canada Post CAD 9.95 mail-handling fee when applicable
Canada Post currently applies a CAD 9.95 handling fee to each mail item assessed as dutiable or taxable. It says no handling amount is charged when the item is duty-free and tax-exempt. This is a Canada Post processing fee, not GST, HST, PST or customs duty, and it does not set the fee for an express courier. Confirm that Canada Post is actually handling the parcel before using this amount in a delivered-cost plan.
10. Check courier brokerage and the self-account option
A courier or customs broker can charge for preparing and filing customs documents, and CBSA says those private service fees are separate from government duties and taxes. For eligible casual courier goods, the importer can choose to self-account at a CBSA office that offers the service, which may reduce some administrative fees but requires following the courier and CBSA process. Confirm the exact route, office availability and steps before choosing this option.
11. Pay only through the verified postal or courier record
Canada Post can offer online duty-and-tax payment for an eligible parcel during a limited window, or collect at delivery or pickup. The CBSA Postal Import Form E14 attached to an assessed mail item provides the detailed duty and tax breakdown. For a courier parcel, use the named carrier's verified record. Match the tracking number and charge before paying, and retain the receipt in case an adjustment request is needed.
12. Preserve accurate descriptions, origin and value
Keep the order invoice, currency, payment proof, specific product description, material where relevant, quantity, country of origin, item value and shipping record. CBSA requires true, accurate and complete information for casual imports. Do not mark a purchase as a qualifying personal gift, lower the value, use a vague description or change the origin to try to alter the assessment.
13. Check prohibited, restricted and counterfeit goods
Canadian laws restrict or prohibit categories such as certain weapons, consumer products, food, plants, animal products, medicines and hazardous goods. CBSA also administers border measures involving counterfeit protected marks and pirated goods. Check the actual product and route before ordering. No low value, declaration wording or shopping-platform listing makes a prohibited, unsafe or infringing product admissible.
14. Track through the verified Canadian record
A parcel can move through export, line-haul, customs and Canadian last-mile systems under the same or a locally assigned identifier. Use the actual route record first and Canada Post's official tracking page only when it handles the item. A tracking pause during customs assessment or transfer is not itself proof of loss, and a carrier estimate is not a guarantee for the complete Hipobuy delivery.
15. Avoid customs and delivery-payment phishing
Canada Post warns about fraudulent messages that imitate parcel notifications and request personal information or payment through a link. Do not rely on a logo, sender name or urgent wording. Open Canada Post or the named courier independently, enter the verified tracking number and confirm that a duty, delivery or address request belongs to the actual parcel before acting.
16. Save the quote and delivered-cost evidence
Keep the selected items, QC photos, packed weight, dimensions, packaging choices, route name, tracking, shipping quote, invoice, E14 or courier customs record and every payment together. This makes it possible to distinguish product cost, international shipping, GST or HST, customs duty, Canada Post handling and courier fees. It also gives you better inputs for a future Canada parcel.

Destination FAQ
Common Canada shipping questions
How much is Hipobuy shipping to Canada?
There is no single fixed Canada price. The live total depends on packed weight, dimensions, route, postal code, product restrictions, service level and current surcharges. Use the calculator for a planning range, then confirm the Hipobuy quote and any separate duty, tax, Canada Post handling or courier fee.
Are Hipobuy parcels under CAD 20 tax-free in Canada?
An ordinary eligible mail or courier shipment sent from China with a value of CAD 20 or less can qualify for duty and tax remission. Exclusions apply. Above CAD 20, applicable duty and taxes are assessed on the full value, not only the amount above the threshold.
Do the CAD 40 and CAD 150 CUSMA thresholds apply to China parcels?
Not normally. Those higher thresholds concern qualifying courier shipments imported from the United States or Mexico. Mail remains at CAD 20, and ordinary mail or courier shipments sent from China use the general CAD 20 rule.
What taxes can apply to a Canada parcel?
Imported goods can be subject to 5% GST, HST or PST based on the destination and goods, plus customs duty based on the product and origin. The Hipo Sheets calculator does not determine or add these charges.
How much does Canada Post charge to process an assessed parcel?
Canada Post currently lists a CAD 9.95 handling fee for each dutiable or taxable mail item. It does not charge that handling amount when the item is duty-free and tax-exempt. Couriers use their own fee schedules.
How should I enter a Canadian delivery address?
Use the full recipient name, unit and civic address, municipality, two-letter province or territory abbreviation, postal code in uppercase A1A 1A1 format with one space and no hyphen, Canada and current contact details.
